Event Details
The East Bay Haas Alumni Network is delighted to host a vitally important presentation by Etta Maitland, Executive Director of Ombudsman Services of Contra Costa County, on "Senior Living Options: What they are, how they differ, and how to select the right one."
Options for providing seniors with care and security include in-home caregivers, residential board & care homes, independent living apartments, assisted living communities, memory care facilities, nursing homes, continuing-care retirement communities, and more. What’s more, there are wide variations in quality, cost, and service within each of these categories. Selecting an appropriate option for a loved one can have a huge impact on his/her health and quality of life. The decision is challenging under the best of circumstances, and potentially overwhelming during a medical crisis.
This event will prepare you with the information you need. Etta Maitland will provide a framework for informed decision making so that you are ready to make wise choices when the time comes. Hear what they don’t tell you on the community tours and in the brochures and websites. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to learn what you really need to know about senior living options.
About Etta Maitland: Twenty-eight years ago Etta joined Ombudsman Services of Contra Costa County as a volunteer. Since then she has held just about every role in the organization on her way to becoming Executive Director, a position which she has held for the past 15 years. During this time she has acquired a vast knowledge and deep understanding of the senior living communities and alternatives in Contra Costa County. She is perhaps the most knowledgeable and truly objective expert on senior living options in our area. Her purpose has always been an unwavering, singular focus on protecting seniors and ensuring their well-being.

They include preventing the abuse and neglect of residents of long-term care facilities, investigating reports of suspected abuse and neglect of residents, protecting residents by enabling them to assert their rights, making unannounced visits to licensed facilities, and coordinating with other agencies including, licensing regulators, local police and fire, and Adult Protective Services. About Aging Essentials:
